What Is an Insurance Claim?

Why Does Filing a Claim Increase Insurance Premiums?

As the not-at-fault driver in a car accident, you are legally entitled to be paid for your losses and expenses caused by the accident. This is either through the other person’s insurance company or by making a claim  through your own insurance company. If you make a claim through your own insurance company, there can be a lot to lose, so you need to carefully examine the pros and cons. The beauty of this is that third party claims can act on your behalf to claim your expenses from the other person’s insurance company, all without your insurer having to be involved.

If you are eligible for the rebate, you can claim the rebate either: through your private health insurance provider – your private health insurance provider will apply the rebate to reduce your private health insurance premiums when you lodge your tax return – as a refundable tax offset. The rebate can be claimed for premiums paid for a private health insurance policy that provides: private patient hospital cover general cover (commonly known as extras), or combined hospital and general cover. The government does not give this rebate on the lifetime health cover loading component of a policy.
